Here's Why We Need Funds to Bring the Fun to Our Schools
The school budget does not account for:
- Advanced Placement classes
- Cultural arts programs
- Anti bullying or prevention programs
- Special education ancillary materials
- After school program
- Performing arts clubs
- Music programs
- Music clubs
- Academic clubs
- Pre and Post prom assemblies or activities
- Drug and alcohol prevention programs, outside of the health curriculum
- SADD leadership camps
Who's Doing What Now?
Typically, our volunteer-only North Smithfield PTO, with their skeleton crew, has been responsible for raising the funds and bringing all of the culutural arts programs into the schools. All of the performances are typically organized, planned and paid for by the PTO.
The North Smithfield Prevention Task Force traditionally helped fund programs like the after school program, prevention programs, prom related activities and grants for the SADD camps. But as as state funding has been continued to dwindle, funds have become less available.
SELAC traditionally works to provide anciallary materials or equipment that may be needed for special needs students. MEANS helps with music education, productions and bringing music enrichment to the community.
These are just a few of the outside organizations working to bring the fun back to North Smithfield. Save Our Stuff would help by earmarking funds directly to these organizations. Your donation would be tax deductible through WMSD and SOS and you can make your donation right here on our website, online.
Funding in this giving area would be for ancillary programs that would not ordinarily be available with school funding. It would not specifically fund academia, but rather other school based initiatives such as clubs, groups, music, art, theater, performaning arts and school based activities.
Our organization would not plan and organize the events or programs for these groups; rather we would help raise funding that may be needed to assist these organizations with achieving their mission.
